When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.Paulo Coelho, “The Alchemist”
We have a lot of glass jars! A lot. We have had to take a few to be recycled already because we have no space to keep them all. I am always looking for fun things to do with these jars. To celebrate Valentine’s Day I made these upcycled heart jars.
Just like the heart bunting we made, we used only items we had around the house to make these and they came out so lovely I want to make more. The string I used was actually Christmas string I bought a few years ago. If you don’t have red string, you can use normal brown string or you could paint it red or pink, depending on the look you are going for. You could also use the same sized jars for neater, more uniform look, it al depends on what you available.
Upcycled Heart Jars
- String – red if you have
- Red cardboard
- Glass jars
- Wrap string around your jar in the middle, it needs to be about half the width of the actual jar.
- Cut out hearts from the red cardboard – the size of the hearts will depend on the size of your glass jars.
- Stick the hearts onto the string in front of your jar.
- Add flowers, candles or candy or just use as is to decorate.
There is so much you can do with these jars once they are decorated. You can fill them with sweets or cookies, add some candles or flowers. They will also work well as a table centre piece for your Valentine’s Day meal. Or you can just leave them empty and place them on your window sill or table. The best part is that hearts aren’t only for Valentine’s Day so you can use these jars all year round to remind you how important it is to focus on love and kindness.
